My review of the World Food Cafe in London

There are many new vegan places that have popped up in London in the last few months and years. The interest in veganism has certainly increased many-fold, with people flocking to vegan cafes, shops and restaurants to see what they have to offer and what they’re all about.

Wondering through the streets of Covent Garden, in particular Monmouth Street, one comes across an alley, opposite Covent Garden Hotel, that is very easily missed, because there’s no big sign saying ‘Enter here for vegan cafes and restaurants’. Once through the alley, you’ll easily see like a small courtyard – Neil’s Yard – with shops, but mainly cafes and restaurants, all small.

You can’t miss World Food Cafe. It’s on a colourful building, there’s also some signs outside on the steps. You have to go up some steps and the cafe is on your right. If you haven’t booked a table, you might have to wait some time until you’re given one, depending on how busy it is. It’s usually very busy, specially on weekends, so I’d advise anyone to book well ahead. But even if they don’t have a table for you right away, and if you’re willing to wait, they can take your mobile phone number and text you whenever your table is available (maximum 5 minutes I think).

Once you’re inside and are sitting next to someone – all tables feel like being in a cantina – a waiter/waitress will come to you to take your order and they’re more than happy to help you if you have any questions or requirements regarding the food. Once the food comes, it’s like a festival of colours, and you cannot help but take a few photos to show to your family and friends and obviously post online.

Their whole menu is plant-based and organic, so if this is important to you, this is the place to try. I had a burger, with sweet potato fries, which were delicious and a natural juice, which was very refreshing. To finish up the meal, a small but very tasty cheesecake.

I’ll go back to World Food Cafe when I’m in the area. Friendly staff, relaxed but fun environment, great natural, organic, plant-based food and a superb service. You’ll definitely leave with a big smile :).
